Sons of the Sirens

This month the Red Raven Gallery is pleased to present the new and fascinating paintings of   Javier Ortega and Laurie McClave
Two intense figurative painters that 'bring it' with their character driven work...

Javier S. Ortega was born in Seville Spain where he was trained in sculpture in the "Escuela de Artes Aplicadas" and ceramics in the "Escuela Taller Plaza EspaƱa". After this he traveled to Florence to continue his education. Upon completion, his time was divided between the cities of Seville, Valencia and the island of Menorca before deciding to move to the city of Seattle. Here in the states he is continuing his career with successful exhibitions of his figurative paintings in some of the cafes and galleries scattered around the Seattle area.  This past year Javier collaborated  with the dinner theater Teatro Zinzani in Seattle to create some breathtaking oil paintings that have been seen in “Maestro’s Menagerie” and “Hearts on Fire.”  His work is at once nostalgic theater and modern cinema noir.

Laurie McClave is a local artist that concentrates on figurative, narrative works in oils.  In the last few years she has been working steadily and doing exhibitions throughout the country.  Laurie currently has her work in the Sea Shepard foundation show " Sea no Evil"  in LA, the Poisoned Apples show in Detroit and Swoon Gallery in San Francisco and LA.  Laurie is not only a full time artist, she also runs the Red Raven Gallery and curates the monthly shows including the benefit for the PT Artscapes foundation.  Laurie's work is a commentary on the modern feminine icon, drawing the viewer into a slightly surreal  fantasy.

Please join us for the opening reception

Medusa in Furs

Red Raven Gallery is pleased to present

 A show of Spectacular Beauty

We Welcome the incomparable talent of Jel ena, Serbian multi media artist all the way from her adopted home of Los Angeles.  Jel Ena's work displays a mastery of the figure and color. Her style is unmistakable and remarkably unique in its vision.  She works with graphite, colored pencil, pastel and paint to create creatures that are at once gorgeously fascinating and untouchable.  Emotion flows from their eyes and captivates the viewer.

Penitence

I am not the flesh of your penitence,
your fetishistic fingers will not pry
forgiveness from these lips.
you may rip out my heart
but it will not bleed,
there will be no pleasure for you
in my blood.

How to get everything rolled into one......

I ask you,.... why is it so crazy hard to get all my ducks in a row?  I cannot seem to get all my social, marketing and creative paths to work in sync.... I am trying my hardest to make this seamless and effortless.  I see people that can do it and I am astounded!  I must be missing something important...
I have a few tech-type geek friends ( I won't name names, but you certainly know who you are)
that just laugh at me and shake their heads when I do not understand their psycho-tech-geek-speak.
I am sorry but all I want to do is create new works of art! New  lovely visions with simple instruments that I understand, like the pencil. Remember that tool?  That, I understand.. it is simple and straight forward and it understands me.. it knows what i want it to do, Just DRAW!  It is so forgiving,.... not at all like web stuff. and computers.. the language of which is so lost on me.. maybe because I am just not that in to math... 0100101 blah blah....Shhh go to sleep now and think about all of this later... or better yet! Don't
